For those that deny the fact that the proposed health care plan (dubbed Obamacare) might have some dark sides to it, perhaps it is time to wake up. A Newsweek article called “The Case for Killing Granny” outlines how Americans need to come to grips with death if real health care change is going to be made in our country. “Until Americans learn to contemplate death as more than a scientific challenge to be overcome, our health-care system will remain unfixable.” It continues to mention that President Obama intentionally avoided the issue, but alluded to the fact that he was aware of what needed to be done to prevent “health care from devouring ever-larger slices of the economy and tax dollar.” The article goes so far to admit that politicians are steering far clear of the term “death panel” which raises serious questions as to why the government that promised transparency is falling in to Bush-like policies. As the article so aptly putts it, “death can be delayed only so long, and sometimes the wait is grim and degrading. The hospice ideal recognized that for many people, quiet and dignity—and loving care and good painkillers—are really what’s called for.” This article is more than an article calling for death panels and right to death, in many ways its an open admission of what many people in our government, including Obama’s Science Czar John Holdren, are calling for. The time to demand transparency is now.
