NEW YORK (AP) — Giving some ground on a top priority of President Barack Obama, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said Wednesday that sanctions are rarely productive but he opened the door to tougher ones to halt Iran’s suspected nuclear weapons program.
”In some cases, sanctions are inevitable,” the Russian leader said after he and Obama held talks on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly meetings.

Is war with Iran imminent? In a build up that is all too similar to that which led to the illegal war in Iraq, it is looking more like Iran is the next target of the U.S. as Russia gives Israel and the Western powers the green light. “President Medvedev gave the first hint yesterday that Russia was prepared to perform a significant policy U-turn and support US moves for sanctions against Iran.”
